The Mount Holly Reporter reached out to both candidates for the Fire Commissioner election and only heard back from Gary Brotz. Here we provide the one minute video supplied by Brotz to summarize his bio and the reasons for his candidacy.
Unfortunately, communication from the Thiessen “campaign” is not actually from the candidate. He submitted a letter of withdrawal from the race to the County Clerk in early October but it was too late to remove his name from the ballot. The Reporter checked the Election Law Enforcement Commission records and found that Theissen raised and spent $0.00 to communicate with voters. All voter outreach for Thiessen has been by the Columbus, NJ based Political Action Committee called “Burlington County Labor Voice”. If you want to know more, check the Reporter’s 2024 article “Is That Legal?”.
Brotz is registered as “non affiliated” and expressed frustration that the Burlington County Labor Voice lied to voters about his party affiliation and made a mockery of Mount Holly’s a non-partisan elections. Brotz said there should not be a focus on party politics in an local election about public safety. “It erodes public trust in our institutions to suggest that public safety is about party affiliation” The voters of Mount Holly rejected partisan elections in 2023 and yet the Burlington County Labor Voice sent multiple direct mail pieces focused on national party politics.
