Many of you will recall the tragic shooting death of Mount Holly resident Andre Ross on September 22nd in Mill Dam Park. Immediately after the shooting, the Mount Holly Police Department arrived at the crime scene and cordoned the area. They do this in order to preserve evidence and prevent unauthorized interference with an investigation.
As a result of an Open Public Records Act request, a body cam video of the scene was released by the police department [provided in this post].
A police official can be seen gesturing to the cordoned area and stating, “Nobody should be in this vicinity”. Within seconds of that statement, Fire Commissioner Nicole Saucier approached the cordon, lifted the tape and strode into the restricted area. This prompted police to shout at her and one officer can be heard to say “What are you doing? You’re walking all over the blood”. To which Ms. Saucier replied “No, I’m not”. She is later heard to say, “Do you want my email address?”
The Mount Holly Reporter reached out to the Police Department and asked a number of questions about this incident including what was the purpose of Ms. Saucier’s visit. The police deferred comment since there is an ongoing case.
The Reporter reached out to Ms. Saucier regarding this incident asking about the rationale for her behavior. Was she trying to coordinate the transmission of Fire Department video to the police? Was there another method of doing so besides striding through an active police investigation?
As of publishing date, she has not responded.
