Mount Holly PD reported that our trash hauler Interstate Waste [IWS] experienced a fire inside one of their trucks. A Google search reveals that these fires are generally causes by batteries or pool chemicals which get crushed and ignite adjacent materials.
In order to save the truck, the driver had to dump his load on Sussex Road near its intersection with Woodlane.
Reached for comment after the incident, Councilwoman Kim Burkus stated that the fire was extinguishe quickly but left a stinking obstruction in the street. She said that IWS dispatched a dumpster to the location for a clean up but that a request for a Public Works backhoe to expedite trash transfer to the dumpster was rejected by Township Manager Josh Brown who also failed to answer phone calls from various officials.
