THE AESTHETICS OF WINTER 2025
MOUNT HOLLY IS TREATED TO GORGEOUS WINTERSCAPES
The morning of December 14, 2025 delivered a snowy wonderland that drew me into my beautiful, frozen back yard where I captured a number of great images.
But the frozen ordeal that followed my brief exaltation reminded me of a musician I met from the Southwest. His pithy description of a 1970s New Jersey pinelands winter near Stockton College has never left me: “The aesthetics of winter are beautiful, but the day to day reality of it is not for me.”
With the sidewalks and stairs rendered safe and my fingers thawed, I spent some time Googling about the 6.6 inches of snowfall on December 14th, and then the annual total snowfall for our area. It appears that the total is now approximately 13 inches with about 7 of those inches having come in Jan/Feb. With two weeks to go before the new year, the annual average of about 25 inches of snowfall for this area seems unlikely to be achieved.
