The Mount Holly Reporter relayed a resident complaint to the PD about inordinate amounts of truck traffic through the center of town on Thursday night. The resident lives on Washington Street and stated that “about 43 construction dump trucks were running in both directions past my home between 10PM and 12:15AM tonight”.
Chief Cliff Spencer responded via email that the PD would be on the lookout. It didn’t take long.
On Friday night the PD had spoken with a number of dump truck drivers who were hauling millings from the the facility off Maple Avenue and the Bypass and taking them to a job outside of Mount Holly. The PD reported that the drivers were very cooperative and immediately took steps to change the truck route.
Reached for comment, Chief Spencer said
“I’m pleased that our officers immediately took appropriate action to address the issue. Whether it’s a major crime or a quality-of-life concern, I want our officers to provide the same level of responsive, professional service to the residents of Mount Holly. If there is something we can reasonably do to help, we’re going to do it.”
The Chief stated that he really appreciated the resident contact on this issue and added that a similar report helped resolve a problem at Creek Island Park.
