MOUNT HOLLY WILL HAVE RUN-OFFS
YES VOTE FOR RUN-OFF ELECTIONS IS AN OVERWHELMING WINNER
The argument for run off elections has won the day. The unofficial tally [we will update when official numbers are available], was approximately 2:1 in favor. The ballot question asked if Mount Holly should bring back run-off elections where a candidate is unable to gather over 50% of votes cast.
Some of the arguments in favor of this approach are
A candidate opposed by more than 50% of the voters should not win the office
Candidates will work harder to connect with voters to avoid a run-off
Apparently voters were not convinced by The Burlington County Labor Voice campaign to frame run offs as a Republican plot to take over Mount Holly and “waste” $100,000 in tax dollars.
