A “Special” 9/28/26 meeting of the Fire District was convened to hire interim administrative staff until 12/31/26. The hiring had been contemplated due to operational delays that arose when former Fire Director Carty was suspended in November 2025 and was finally removed in August 2026. The recent resignation of a long serving Finance Director brought the administrative problems into sharp focus.
Readers will recall that Commission Chair Thiessen took on the top operational roll of Director during Carty’s 9 month suspension. The combined “temporary” Director role along with the Chair duties caused delays on the operational side of the District. Last nights hiring is expected to streamline budgeting and administrative tasks greatly until permanent administrators can be hired next year.
